Chavrie Cheese Giveaway

I know!  It’s cheese!  And not vegan cheese, either.  But I do have a soft spot for cheese--I can’t help it.  I love it more than meat!  So when Corrinne from Vault Communications contacted me a few weeks ago about doing a sampling and a giveaway for you guys, I couldn’t resist.  And I’m glad I didn’t!

Chavrie-11

Chavrie is the only goat cheese I like.  It’s mild and creamy, and just delicious.  I’ve had some goat cheeses that were very strong, and the taste stayed with me all day.  Not Chavrie!  It’s perfectly delicious !  And did you know?  Goat cheese is also quite healthy, with 30% less fat and calories than most cow’s milk and its tolerable for those who cannot digest cow’s milk. If you want to read more about it, or find more recipe ideas, check out Chavrie's website!

I tried one of the recipes that Corrinne sent me.  It’s a fall appetizer, with the cheese and dried fruits, all warmed to a creamy goodness--just right for spreading on toasted baguette slices.  Delicious?  Hell yes!  Especially (for me) with a drizzle of honey to finish it off.

So what will you get if you win?

One winner will receive a package worth an estimated $100:

  • Williams-Sonoma Cherry Wood Bread Board with Dip Bowl
  • Warm Creamy Chavrie Spread Recipe
  • Dried Fruits
  • Crystallized Ginger
  • Chavrie Coupons
  • Cooking.com Gift Certificate for $50.00
  • Chavrie Recipe Cards

What do you have to do to enter?

1)  Leave a comment here on this post, telling me your favorite way to have Chavrie Goat Cheese.  Let’s get those ideas flowing!

2) Tweet about the giveaway--as many times as you like!  Just be sure to leave a comment for each Tweet.  I want to make sure you get all of your entries.

3)  If you’re on Facebook, you can post about it there, and again, leave a comment here for your entry.

4)  Chavrie can only ship to the US.

5)  Make sure I can reach you by email, ok?

The giveaway will last for two weeks, so you have plenty of time to enter and different ways to get entries in.  I’ll randomly choose a winner on Monday, September 28th.

Yes, this is the same bread board the winner will receive…

Chavrie-4

Here is the recipe you see here.  The creamy, warm cheese with the sweet and tart dried fruits are just perfect together.  And the honey takes it over the top!

Chavrie-6

Warm Creamy Chavrie Spread

Serves 10

1 (5.3 oz) Chavrie Pyramid
2 TB chopped dried cherries
2 TB diced dried apricots
1 TB finely diced crystallized ginger
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp minced fresh parsley (which I forgot!)
20 thin slices of fresh toasted baguette

Heat the broiler.  With a spoon, spread the cheese in a shallow oven proof dish.
Sprinkle with dried fruits and drizzle with oil.
Broil about three inches from the heat for about 2-3 minutes until the cheese is warm.
Sprinkle with the parsley and serve with the baguette slices.
Doubles easily for a party-sized crowd!

I love cheese too Elle, and you do have the best give-aways! This one is truly delightful. I'd love to serve it in vol-au-vents with tomatoes & fresh herbs. YUM! Fingers crossed!

I love Chavrie as well. My favorite new way to eat it is to spread some plain Chavrie on some dark bread (either a dark wheat bread or pumpernickle) then top with a dollop of some of my homemade Plum Chutney. It's sweet and savory and a little spicy and the perfect mix of fruit and cheese.

I usually don't eat a lot of cheese, but this looks so good. Especially how you served it up! Would be great on a panini-maybe with pears, agave, rosemary! YUM!

My favorite way is this goat cheese and tomato tart: http://www.lanascooking.com/2009/03/28/bb-tomato-and-goat-cheese-tarts/

I love love love love love goat cheese in just about any form. I love it on a great steak (sorry - not vegan) with a red wine sauce (http://feteandfeast.com/2009/08/19/cooks-toolkit-balsamic-red-wine-sauce/) and on pizza (http://feteandfeast.com/2007/06/03/grilled-pizza-quick-easy-and-healthy/). One of my favorie appetizers is goat cheese rolled in sunflower seeds and drizzled with honey (http://feteandfeast.com/2009/04/11/potluck-survival-guide/). This fall I'm going to make a version o this appetizer rolled in pumpkin seeds and served with dried fruits, similar to your recipe. I can't wait to see what other good ideas are listed here - I can never get enough goat cheese!

Oooh goat cheese! Yum. I like to stuff it into dates, wrap them in bacon, and bake until the bacon is crisp. OR in a panini with apples and basil. Or spread on toast and broiled for fancy-pants croutons to go with soup. YUM.

My favorite way is to dollop a homemade pizza crust with Alouette Goat Cheese, uncured pepperoni slices, drizzled olive oil, fresh minced garlic, fresh chopped basil, raw tomato slices, and sprinklings of mozzarella. Then it all goes on a baking stone and on the grill. It's to drool for.

I live for goat cheese :--)
My favorite thing to do with it is marinate it.

Marinated Goat Cheese

(12-ounce) log soft goat cheese, or 3 smaller logs, chilled

3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon whole peppercorns, preferably a mixture of white, red, and black
1 teaspoon whole allspice berries
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
2 tablespoons finely minced fresh ginger
1/3 cup slivered fresh basil
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
Crackers, as accompaniment

Using a thin-bladed vegetable knife or paring knife, cut the goat cheese into 1/2-inch-thick slices. (Dip the knife blade in hot tap water after each cut.) Arrange the slices in a single layer in a Pyrex pie plate or baking dish.

In a small saucepan, combine the olive oil, peppercorns, and allspice. In a small bowl, combine the garlic, ginger, basil, and orange. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and cook until the peppercorns begin to pop, about 2 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and immediately stir in the garlic mixture. After 5 seconds of stirring, pour the hot olive oil mixture over the goat cheese. Marinate in the refrigerator at least 3 hours, covered with plastic wrap.
The recipe can be completed to this point up to 1 week before serving.
To serve, transfer the chilled cheese to a serving plate. Serve at room temperature or chilled, with crackers.

Cheese has to be one of my favorite things on this planet!

I love Chavrie in a shallow dish - with a sweet and spicy fruit salsa drizzled over the top. GREAT for parties! The creamy chavrie makes it easy for people to dip toasted bread or whole grain pita chips. YUMMY!!

How great would this be with cinnamon bread pudding as a little dollop. (I am not a whip cream person at all). I think the combo of the sweet and the cheese would be great.

September 14, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCathy - wheresmydamnanswer

I've never tried Chavrie and have only had goat cheese once or twice and was too strong for me. But this milder flavor sounds wonderful. I think that the Apple Strudel sounds intriguing. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway,

September 14, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNancy

I almost never end up eating goat cheese any other way than plain on some cracker or bread, maybe with fresh fruit. But that's just because I'm impatient and want to eat the cheese as quickly as possible :P

But I can imagine something fun using goat cheese, chopped walnut, orange blossom honey, and phyllo dough...

September 14, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCaleb

I am all about goat cheese stuffed into fresh figs and baked until warm. Luscious!

I love goat cheese. Thankfully, Chavrie is Kosher, so I can use it in many recipes at home. My favorite way to use it is as a frosting for carrot cake or muffins. It comes out so creamy and smooth and can be mixed with many different flavors to suite any taste.

September 14, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

Give me a toasted bagel with some goat cheese and I'm one happy girl. I have GOT to try that recipe Elle, my mouth started watering the second I saw that first picture! I think my MIL would love this appetizer so I'll have to give it a go when they're here for Thanksgiving!! (if I can wait that long)

I LOVE to eat Chevre goat cheese in so many ways but my favorite is a panini with honey roasted turkey and fig spread. When I want a quick breakfast I love spreading it over toasted multigrain bread with a drizzle of honey.

My favorite veg sandwich is chevre spread on a good artisan multi-grain bread and roasted or grilled veggies (eggplant, onion, peppers, zucchini, tomato, garlic, basil). Or, chevre spread on multi-grain with thinly sliced apple and roast turkey. Now I have gone and made myself hungry.

Great giveaway! I have a new recipe where you coat the cheese log in bread crumbs, lavender, and spices and slice it and bake it. Serve the slices on a plate of greens for a wonderful salad.

a cheese giveaway! What a way to start the day :-)

I like goat cheese on sliced bread with a little of my honey drizzled over the top. Since it is fig season, I would add a slice of fig in there too, for something extra special. I am also interested in trying a goat cheese ice cream I read about in David Lebovitz's Perfect Scoop. Would love to win this prize!
