West Bend Ice Shaver Giveaway

These Snow Cones could be yours!

Contest closed. The winner is comment #64, Shaye! Thank you to everyone that entered, and stay tuned, because I have more great giveaways lined up for the next few weeks! Good eats, good drinks, good things to help you make those good eats, and good things to grow!

It’s hot, and you want an ice cold treat. It’s still hot, and your kids are freaking out just because it’s summer and they have all the time in the world to do so. Gather everyone around and make some snow cones with your brand new Electric Ice Shaver from West Bend! I don’t think anyone can say no to a sweet, ice cold refreshing snow cone on a hot day.

We're waiting...

Or how about this? You’re sitting around with your adult friends on a hot summer evening. Break out the Back to Basics Electric Ice Shaver and make some grown up snow cones with your favorite cocktail flavors!

I recently had the chance to test drive the West Bend Electric Ice Shaver. It works great! The ice shaves nice and fluffy. You get two ice molds in the box that are the perfect size for the ice shaver--of course. You can also use ice cubes, but you’ll get a coarser texture. I like to fill the molds, and when frozen, remove them and freeze two more. Think of it as having a supply of ice cubes--you want to have some on hand for when you need them, right? I store the individual frozen ice molds in small Ziploc bags--separately, so they don’t stick together. This way I have plenty on hand when we suddenly need a round of snow cones. Two ice molds make about six snow cones. We can get more mileage if we’re adding a bit of ice cream at the bottom.

You’re only limited by your imagination with these. Not only did we use the supplied flavorings in Watermelon, Cherry, and Blue Raspberry, but we also improvised and made some of our own. Root Beer Float or Creamsicle, anyone? How about coconut water and pineapple juice?

Wait. How do you make Root Beer Float and Creamsicle snow cones, you ask? Easy! Just pop a small scoop of vanilla ice cream in the bottom of the paper cone. As the flavored ice starts to melt into the ice cream on the bottom, you get a creamy mix of deliciousness! Next, I want to try cherry ice with some chocolate ice cream on the bottom. Maybe some margarita ones? You really can’t go wrong with that, can you?

West Bend is celebrating 100 trusted years of bringing us quality products. I’ll bet many of you already have at least one West Bend appliance in your home. My mom and grandmother always had things from West Bend. I grew up with them! That makes them a tradition in our home, and I’m sure, in many others. The ice shaver is part of the Back to Basics line from West Bend. Have a look around--they’ve got so many great things on the site!

West Bend has graciously offered to give the Electric Ice Shaver Package to one of you. Now you can make your own snow cones at home! (The snow cone holder in my photos is not included in the giveaway-that’s mine. But it sure as heck comes in handy!)

Included are:

  • West Bend Electric Ice Shaver
  • Two ice molds
  • Popsicle molds
  • Paper Snow Cone cups
  • Assortment of Snow Cone flavorings
  • Scoopy-type straws for scooping and slurping

How to enter:

1. REQUIRED: Please visit West Bend’s page on Facebook and “Like” it. This one’s a must, and only takes a few seconds and/or two clicks. Leave me a comment here telling me that you liked their page.

2. Leave a comment here telling me what kind of snow cone you might like to try first. Let’s get those ideas flowing!

Bonus entry--NOT required: You can tweet about the giveaway, and leave a comment here for each tweet. Just don’t drive your Twitter friends crazy. Winking smile

That’s it! Simple. I’ll choose a random winner (US shipping only) on Friday, July 8th. I’ll alert the winner by email, and the winner will have 24 hours to get back to me, or I’ll have to choose another.

These could be your snow cones!

That's funny because we've been eying a snow cone maker at BB&B to use for my bday party in a week and a half!
I've been trying to decide what flavors of syrup to offer. I'm thinking that a simple syrup with some Kool-aid powder would probably work really well. Blue raspberry, here I come!

(Oh, and I liked and tweeted as instructed.) ;)

June 30, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterShaye

How fun it that! I'm not going to enter as I think someone with kids would get a lot more use out of it though I love the idea of adult icees.

June 30, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkat

Liked WB on fb :)

Ooh what flavor... lemonade? Blue raspberry? Maybe a faux-rita or wait and do a real margarita when I can. Yum. So many possibilities.

Awesome giveway - those look sooo good! :) I 'liked' on fb as Jocelyn P. :) Godsgalnj@gmail.com

I would make rosemary lemon flavor yum. lemon shaved ice is amazing! add a little rosemary simple syrup... tasty time!

I liked West Bend before but I've now made it official ma'am. We so often associate snow cones with kids but they are a passion of mine that is never realized now that my kids are gone. I do believe I would have to try something adult; thinking Limoncello or even espresso/Kahlua? OK, now I REALLY want one!

I've always been a sucker for blue raspberry. :-) Thanks for hosting the give-away. (By the way, I'm a fellow native-New Englander. Grew up in VT, but living in the South now.)

I "liked" West Bend on FB. I think I would try to create a "caramel frapacino" snow cone. :)

June 30, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMandy

Making smoothies and fruit shakes is one of our family bonding and with the help of West Bend Electric Ice Shaver it was more fun to do shakes every time we wanted to.

Hey! Love the redesign! And I'm not entering as...shhh...I don't like sno-cones. :)

June 30, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

I would have to make some grown up versions. Maybe a pina colada or a rum and coke. As hot as it gets in this part of the world, I know this would be put to good use!

June 30, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermegan

I like West Bend on Facebook.

what a refreshing give away~ especially since i live in n.c.!!! i love that you can make "meat loaf" in their breadmaker, verrry interesting! thanks for sharing this neat give away, i think "root beer" floats or margarita shaved ice would be refreshing to serve on one of our pool days with family and friend!!!! :) barb

Fun! I would love to use these to make some "adult" snow cones, and I already like them on FB (and you, too).

I "Like" West Bend on Facebook.

I might have to go with an "adult" beverage and try a Mojito version. ;)

I would love to try a passion fruit snow cone! But one of my favorites is definitely a virgin margarita. :)

July 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMegan C

And I like West Bend on Facebook, too.

July 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMegan C

I'm in the adult beverage camp: something "Arnold Palmer-y" (iced tea/lemonade and vodka), for the non-golfers! But I also think someone with kids would get a lot of use out of this so skip my comment for the drawing, thanks.

July 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPaula B.

I've always liked West Bend, and I let them know on their Facebook page!

July 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRJ Flamingo

Now, let's see... Flavors.... How about Piña Colada? Or a fun new take on the Daiquiri? The mind boggles! :-D

July 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRJ Flamingo

And I tweeted!

I would try to figure out how to make Pina Colada with the vanilla ice cream at the bottom. When we lived in Hawaii, there was a little shop in Kailua called Island Snow. They made the very best Pina Colada shave ice!!!! I would love to be able to make that at home ...

July 6, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFlossie Roberts

I like the West Bend page on FB. I would make a root beer snow cone. It is over 100 degrees in the summer in So California so my kids would use this often. It just screams summer.
