Lighten up with Alouette! {Giveaway}

I was recently given the chance to try a new item from Alouette Cheese--the new Light Spinach Artichoke Soft Spreadable Cheese.* Does it look “light?” No. Does it taste “light?” No! It’s fantastic! Right out of the tub, on crackers, veggies, bagels, wraps, sandwiches--it adds so much flavor.

Light_Artichoke_Spinach

Giveaway is now closed, but the dip recipe still rocks--check it out below! The winner is michele p. Congrats! Thanks to all that entered!

How did they make it light? By blending it all with skim milk, that’s how--but you can’t tell, seriously. My sixteen year old and I dove right into it when it arrived and we loved it! We also got lots of ideas for it, like the ones I mentioned above, and also thinning it out to make a pasta sauce, and using it in a hot, cheesy dip.

Hot and Crabby Spinach Artichoke Dip

Here is some info, and a few ideas for the cheese from Alouette:

  • New Light Spinach and Artichoke Soft Spreadable Cheese:
  •
    • 50 percent less fat and 30 percent less calories than regular spreadable cheese
    • 100% all natural and a delicious alternative to hummus
    • Gluten-Free
    • What’s more, artichokes contain more than 14 vitamins & minerals and are a great source of dietary fiber, magnesium and Vitamin C
    • Spinach is loaded with phytonutrients and flavonoids that provide powerful antioxidant protection
  • Summer entertaining or grilling: Fresh & healthy cheese inspired recipes and snacking ideas.
    • Wrap it up! Substitute condiments with our Light Spreadable Cheese to add a new zip to a summer vegetable wrap or turkey sandwich.
    • Top those veggies! Serve new Light Alouette with your favorite veggies like fresh cucumber slices or baby carrots.
    • Top your grilled veggies with Light Alouette! It will create an instant cream sauce with less the calories and fat.

I played around with the recipe that’s inside the package and came up with this great cheesy dip that you can serve hot, warm, or at room temp. Just be mindful of any warm weather and don’t leave it sitting out in the heat for too long.

Hot and Crabby Spinach Artichoke Dip

Hot and Crabby Spinach Artichoke Dip

2 garlic cloves, minced
2 TB flour
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp hot sauce, or more/less to taste
salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp grainy mustard
2 (6.5 oz) tubs Alouette Light Spinach Artichoke Soft Spreadable Cheese
1/3 cup white wine
2 (6 oz) cans crabmeat, drained
1 cup feta, divided (2/3 cup to add to the dip, 1/3 cup to sprinkle over)
1 tsp honey

Heat oven to 400 degrees F.

Heat a medium skillet over low heat. Sauté garlic in a bit of oil. When the garlic start to get lightly golden, stir in the flour and the milk. Bring to a boil, then turn down to a simmer for just a few minutes. Add the hot sauce, salt and pepper, and mustard.

Stir in the cheese, turn heat to low. Add wine, crabmeat and honey, remove from heat and stir in 2/3 cup of the feta.

Pour into a lightly greased 1 & 1/2 quart baking dish, then top with the remaining 1/3 cup of feta. Bale for 8-10 minutes until browned on top. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Serve with toasted baguette slices, crackers, pita chips, or veggies. Store any leftovers in the fridge.
