Mighty Leaf Tea: Review and Giveaway

Giveaway is now closed.  The lucky winner is Amy, comment # 73.  Thanks to playing along, and stay tuned!  I have many more giveaways coming up in the next few weeks!

Who doesn’t love tea?  It’s the perfect time of year, too, for a nice hot cup (or large mug) of tea!  Wait, what am I saying?  We drink iced tea all year long in my house--so I guess that means tea is perfect any day of the year!

Getting back to this time of year, though--when you come in from the cold, or when you have a cold, tea is one of the best things to make you feel better.  Last winter, I was sick with something for…geez, almost 2 months?  It was hell.  And no matter how many medicines I tried, the one thing that calmed my cough, soothed my throat, helped me breathe, and did I say calmed my cough?  Was tea.  Pure, simple tea.  Steaming hot, with a spoonful of honey.  Nothing worked like the tea did, not even that “nighttime, sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching” stuff.

So!  I was contacted a while back from Heather, representing Mighty Leaf Tea.   She offered to send me some samples, along with the coolest travel tea mug, ever.  I happily agreed and opted for the Fall sampler, since it was right at the end of the summer.  So happy, too--because their teas are like no other I’ve tried.  It’s impossible to over brew their teas, since the tea bag tags tell you how long to brew each cup.  So that means no more bitter tea--just a perfect cup, every time!

I wasn’t familiar with Mighty Leaf Tea, but eager to find out more about them.  Here are just a few facts:

  • They painstakingly handcraft their artisan whole leaf tea blends.
  • The co-founders have created an industry shaping process-- handcrafted, hand stitched, silken Tea Pouches.  This creation set a whole new industry standard with 9 similar mesh pouches being introduced within 2 years.
  • Co-founders Gary Shinner and Jill Portman ran their San Francisco tea house, Tea & Company, for three years before deciding to close up shop and launch Mighty Leaf Tea.  In those three years, they listened to what customers wanted and decided to fill that niche, not just locally, but internationally.
  • In 2009, Mighty Leaf Tea was selected as the official tea house purveyor for the James Beard Foundation.
  • Also in 2009, Mighty Leaf Tea launched it’s own global giving foundation, The Mighty Leaf Tea Foundation.  They promote and encourage sustainable farming and production methods for tea growing regions around the world.  They also foster long term prosperity for artisans and their local communities through monetary program support.

Besides being incredibly delicious and versatile (yes, versatile-many recipes make great use of tea!), tea is also extremely beneficial to your health!  Some of the health benefits are:

  • Stress reduction
  • Weight management
  • Healthy teeth and fresh breath
  • Battling colds and flu (See?  I told you!)
  • Heart disease and stroke
  • Cancer prevention

Please see the above link for further details.  Very interesting reading!

Mighty Leaf Tea

In my sample package, I received the travel mug, a packet of Matcha Green Tea Powder, and four teas to try: Chocolate Mint Truffle, Rainforest Mate, Bombay Chai, and Vanilla Bean, plus a packet of Matcha Green Tea Powder.  The teas are fabulous.  I’ve got to say, I’m a sucker for Chai, but the Chocolate Mint Truffle is a very close second.  All four are wonderful in their very different blends of flavors.

You already know I used the Matcha in these Zombie Eyeball Cookies, which are really just Matcha Shortbread Thumbprint Cookies.  The green tea flavor is subtle, and yet adds so much to the shortbread!  I definitely recommend trying some in your baking--it’s a nice addition!

Let’s talk about the TeaTop Brew Travel Mug.  I love it!  If you like your tea in the morning, either on the way to work, or while dropping the kids off at school--this mug is perfect for you.

First, you fold the tea tag in half and slip it through the slit in the lid.  Your tea will brew right in the mug.  Pull up on the teabag after brewing time is done.  It goes right up into a special little spot in the lid, where it stays until you’re finished.  No more over brewed, bitter tea!  Check out the video to see it in action!

You know, if you have no idea what to buy that tea lover, special someone, your mom, your grandma, your kid’s teacher, etc…Mighty Leaf Tea and a travel mug make a wonderful holiday or birthday gift!  And one that can be enjoyed for a long time, too.   Check out their gift selection.

Orange dulce! Love their teas!

I adore Mighty Leaf teas and appreciate the tea pouches they developed. Even though the tea is in a pouch, it's not (like most) ground to a fine powder - the integrity of the leaves and fruit/flower bits are visible. I dig that!

I'm an admirer of seasonal teas, so I'd love to try their Holiday 2010 tea.

OH I absolutely LOVE Mighty Leaf. I happened to be introduced to them at my sister's team building at the Aviara in Carlsbad. Ever since that fateful day some 3 1/2 years ago, I have a stash of the Green Tea Tropical and just discovered their White Orchard. Looking at their website, I would be interested in trying the Organic Sencha, the Green Citron and the Pear Caramel sounded interesting. I highly recommend Mighty Leaf to any tea lover out there. I already follow them on Twitter and "like" them on Facebook so I am all set. I have not tried any of the above giveaway flavors and they sound fabulous!
